Actor Andy Griffith Passes Away at Age 86

WITN is reporting that actor Andy Griffith died this morning around 7:00 a.m. in Dare County, North Carolina. Former UNC President Bill Friday, a close friend of the actor, confirmed the news.

Griffith was a regular on the Ed Sullivan show in the 1950s, but is best know for starring in "The Andy Griffith Show" from 1960-1968 and producing and starring in the TV series "Matlock," which ran from 1986–1995.

Griffith received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005 from President George W. Bush.
