The Men in Black Board the USS Intrepid

A couple of nights ago, ComingSoon.net was invited by Sony Pictures to attend the premiere and after-party for their new movie Men in Black 3 at the U.S.S. Intrepid--the connection being that Fleet Week takes place in New York City and Sony and the filmmakers wanted to do something to commemorate our Navy troops, many of whom were on-hand for the after-party.

Of course, we just assumed they were taking over the gift shop because we had never heard of the Intrepid being rented out for a movie premiere, but when we got there, we saw that the party had taken over almost the entire flight deck and surrounded the normal jets and helicopters on display there with all sorts of food stands and bars for the attending guests. As you walked in, there was also a large stage on prominent display on which we were told Miami's Pitbull, who performed the new movie's theme song, would be performing later.

Besides having lots of stands to get food--everything from deli sandwiches and hotdogs to chinese food--they had built three fascimile restaurants where people could sit down to eat, including Sonnenfeld's Delicatessen and Wu's Chinese Restaurant, much like the one in the movie. They even had built a full Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin-Robbins mini-restaurant with real leather-seated booths.

Just after 10PM, they kicked off an impressive fireworks display that was on par with New York's annual 4th of July fireworks, and then Pitbull kicked into his set, which included performing his song from "MIB3," which you can watch in the video below. The biggest surprise was that spinning music was the one and only DJ Jazzy Jeff from Philadelphia, who was there with Will Smith at the very beginning of his career as an entertainer. After PItbull and his band left the stage, Jaden Smith joined Jeff on stage for a song, but then Will Smith came on himself and gave the rapturous audience a full-blown DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince reunion, performing his own "Men in Black" tune (a bit which you can see below) and hits like "Summertime." It really made this a very special night for those in attendance.

You can watch a couple snippets of the two performances below as well as some B-roll footage provided by Sony of the venue and some of the events.
