ComingSoon.net: Welcome to our live blog of the Legendary Pictures panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. The panel should be starting soon, so stay tuned. We are not able to provide video, but if the studio releases promo material or videos we will post it on the site.

12:21
Comment From Josh
Fingers crossed for a Godzilla 2 announcement!

12:21
Spencer Perry-SHH: I get the feeling this might happen.

12:22
EDouglasCS: Hey guys!

12:22
Spencer Perry-SHH: Ed Douglas everyone!

12:22
EDouglasCS: Panel hasn't started yet. Just getting everyone seated

12:22
ComingSoon.net: From Duncan Jones: "I'm sweating. No. Not sweating... I'm rivulet'ing! This is unattractive. Please be gentle with me, Hall H!"

12:23
EDouglasCS: They're getting ready to start. If you missed it earlier, I expect them to focus on Crimson Peak and As Above So Below but also show something from Warcraft and maybe tease other projects

12:24
Comment From Guest
Hope they announce pacific rim 2

12:24
EDouglasCS: This is called the "Legendary" panel but it's also Universal, so here's hoping they show something from Jurassic World.. more than the tease they showed at CinemaCon in March

12:24
Spencer Perry-SHH: They already did that weeks ago!

12:24
Spencer Perry-SHH: http://www.superherohype.co...

12:24
Comment From Craig
Would love to hear so Pacific Rim 2 stuff

12:24
EDouglasCS: I don't think we'll here much more. Guillermo doesn't even start pre-production for a few weeks although he's released a few tidbits in the last couple weeks

12:25
EDouglasCS: I'd love to see a tease for Spectral... that's supposed to be amazing

12:26
EDouglasCS: They're getting ready to start... here comes Eddie Ibrahim!

12:26
EDouglasCS: Billy asked about Cyber... I believe they will tease something. Let's just say "I saw something" :)

12:27
ComingSoon.net: The panel is only 45 minutes long, so they might not have time for much. We'll see..

12:27
EDouglasCS: They began with a big fanfare and showing the Legendary logo

12:27
EDouglasCS: Jessica Chobot is moderating the panel

12:28
Comment From SeanWolf
Is Legendary the last panel or are there more?

12:28
EDouglasCS: Lots and lots more!

12:28
EDouglasCS: First up is Legendary President Thomas Tull

12:28
EDouglasCS: to the tune of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" no less.

12:28
EDouglasCS: Sean: Yes.. stay tuned!

12:29
EDouglasCS: He says that he wanted to bring something back for Godzilla after the success of the last two years

12:29
EDouglasCS: Instead, they have a video of director Gareth Edwards

12:31
EDouglasCS: Very cool... Gareth Edwards taped an intro from San Francisco thanking the fans of Comic-Con for their reaction to the teaser two years ago

12:32
EDouglasCS: He said that he needs to take a break from franchises and fanboy pressure before directing the sequel

12:32
Spencer Perry-SHH: Is that why he's making a Star Wars movie? :)

12:33
Comment From kaleb
which one is he attached to?

12:33
Spencer Perry-SHH: The first spin-off film

12:34
EDouglasCS: In Gareth's intro, he said he was going to tell us which creatures would appear in the sequel but everything he said was bleeped

12:34
EDouglasCS: (BTW, he was in San Francisco, saying he was there to rebuild the city after Godzilla's destruction.)

12:34
EDouglasCS: Thomas Tull then showed a teaser from Monarch that used some of the similar newsreel footage as the Godzilla opening credits

12:35
EDouglasCS: Next up is As Above So Below

12:36
ComingSoon.net: I believe the teaser revealed that Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah will appear in Godzilla 2!

12:37
EDouglasCS: they're showing an extended railer for As Above, So Below, which is probably out there already.

12:37
EDouglasCS: Anyway, back to the Godzilla 2 teaser

12:38
EDouglasCS: They showed a bunch of old newsreel footage similar to the opening credits but it was interspersed with the tag:

12:38
EDouglasCS: "There is still one secret that remains hidden"

12:38
EDouglasCS: "There are others"

12:38
EDouglasCS: And then we see a shadow of what's clearly Rodan with the words "Codename: Rodan"

12:39
EDouglasCS: and then they show the old Mothra with the title "Codename: Mothra"

12:39
EDouglasCS: and lastly.... "Codename: Ghidira!"

12:39
EDouglasCS: "Monarch Assessment: Conflict Imminent"...

12:39
EDouglasCS: and the words "LET THEM FIGHT"

12:40
EDouglasCS: Not sure they'll release the teaser online because it seems like a Comic-Con only type thing but it really got everyone excited about the monsters Godzilla might face whenever that's going to happen

12:40
EDouglasCS: The As Above So Below looked pretty scary, a bit like The Descent... anyone saw Neil Marshall's movie?

12:41
EDouglasCS: It was definitely an extended trailer because it showed a lot more footage of the protagonists trying to get around the Paris Catacombs before they're attacked by creatures

12:41
EDouglasCS: The Dowdles say they were the first filmmakers who were allowed to shoot in the forbidden section of the Catacombs

12:41
Comment From Sandro
I saw it, brilliant movie? It's a cave movie this one=?

12:41
EDouglasCS: It's set in the Paris Catacombs which are miles long and run under the streets of Paris

12:42
EDouglasCS: No more to say about Godzilla 2... it really was a thank you to the fans and a really brief tease for the movie

12:42
EDouglasCS: Wow, that's it for As Above, So Below. The Dowdles were on there for about 5 minutes

12:42
EDouglasCS: Next up is Guillermo del Toro I think

12:42
EDouglasCS: So Crimson Peak

12:42
EDouglasCS: No, it's not Guillermo

12:43
EDouglasCS: they're introducing a "Hollywood Legend"

12:43
EDouglasCS: Holy crap... it's Michael Mann!!!! Making his first Comic-Con appearance EVER!!!

12:43
EDouglasCS: As mentioned before, he's directing Cyber for Legendary

12:43
EDouglasCS: He comes out to rousing applause... the guy is indeed a legend

12:43
EDouglasCS: he had heard so much from his friends (like Guillermo) how great Comic-COn is which is why he wanted to be there.

12:44
EDouglasCS: I guess Cyber has been retitled "Black Hat"?

12:44
EDouglasCS: Michael is talking about wanting to do original movies vs. stuff adapted from other sources

12:45
EDouglasCS: He said that if he was going to do a movie about a thief, he wanted to do an original story.

12:45
EDouglasCS: He's going to talk about the digital underworld the movie taps into.

12:45
EDouglasCS: "We wanted to do a large scale crime story that takes place in Asia"

12:45
EDouglasCS: He mentioned the attention to "Stuxnet"?

12:46
EDouglasCS: Yes, it does sound like the name has been changed to "Black Hat"

12:46
EDouglasCS: I guess that's a type of hacker

12:46
EDouglasCS: He said he was hanging with some Black Hat hackers and when they got deep into coding, like 7/8 hours, they start "zoning"

12:46
ComingSoon.net: Definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...(computer_security)#Black_hat

12:46
EDouglasCS: "It's a kind of escapism in reverse"

12:46
EDouglasCS: Are you sure you want to share that, CS? :)

12:47
Comment From CNTX
A "black hat" hacker is a hacker who "violates computer security for little reason beyond maliciousness or for personal gain"

12:47
EDouglasCS: I think they might show some footage.

12:47
EDouglasCS: This is going to be the first view of anything on the film

12:50
EDouglasCS: The footage looked amazing, like classic Michael Mann

12:50
EDouglasCS: and the official title is "blackhat" (all lower case at the end of the footage which looked a trailer)

12:50
EDouglasCS: They still haven't dated this movie

12:51
EDouglasCS: The footage opens on a city scene and it shows people swiping their credit cards and going through day to day life with the titles

12:51
EDouglasCS: Every card you swipe
Every message you send
Every secret you hide
Can be turned against you in an instant

12:51
EDouglasCS: We then hear the voice of the antagonist saying:

12:51
EDouglasCS: "This isn’t about money, this isn’t about politics
I can target anyone, anything, anywhere”

12:52
EDouglasCS: Apparently, he uses his hacking to blow up a nuclear plant and when Chris Hemsworth is arrested, he's called in as a consultant to the government

12:52
EDouglasCS: Oh... did I mention that Chris Hemsworth just came on stage? :)

12:52
Comment From Guest
EDouglasCS: It's been dated for January 16th since last November

12:52
EDouglasCS: Thanks... the trailer just said "Coming Soon"

12:53
EDouglasCS: Anyway, Hemsworth's character uses the fact the government needs his help to try to commute his sentence

12:53
EDouglasCS: We see a bit of Viola Davis in there and glimpses of the other characters

12:54
EDouglasCS: Hemsworth is saying that his character is on the wrong side of the law before he's taken in and he uses the fact they need his help as leverage

12:55
EDouglasCS: They're talking about the connections to wikileaks and Edward Snowden

12:56
EDouglasCS: Hemsworth met with a hacker who told him that everything he could do which made the actor want to get rid of his computer and all technology

12:58
EDouglasCS: That's it for blackhat... they're not really allowing the audience to ask any questions in this panel

12:58
EDouglasCS: maybe that's a good thing

12:58
EDouglasCS: I hope this trailer appears soon

12:58
EDouglasCS: Next up... Guillermo del Toro!!! (I think he literally has a panel every day)

12:58
Comment From billy
Does it inspire confidence, or could it just be another 'January' movie?

12:58
EDouglasCS: Looks better than that last Jack Ryan movie

12:59
EDouglasCS: "I'll be here tomorrow, too!"

12:59
EDouglasCS: He's being asked why it's the right time to return to horror

12:59
EDouglasCS: "I wanted to make a movie that can blend two sides of my personality"

12:59
EDouglasCS: BTW, if blackhat is ANY good, I would expect Universal to give it a NY/LA release by year's end ala Lone Survivor

1:00
EDouglasCS: GDT is talking about how it will be r-rated and incredibly violent and Legendary said "okay"

1:00
EDouglasCS: He keeps saying that the film is going to be incredibly beautiful and he's talking about the Occulus Rift experience at the booth

1:00
EDouglasCS: He's going to show some footage!!!

1:01
EDouglasCS: Since it's a year and a half he's only going to show a little bit

1:01
EDouglasCS: He's going to show the cast in wardrobe

1:01
EDouglasCS: When GDT mentioned Tom Hiddleston everyone screamed

1:01
EDouglasCS: He says that his cast is the special FX

1:02
EDouglasCS: GDT says that despite his good looks and bad boy image as Loki, Tom is also one of the nicest guys

1:05
EDouglasCS: He just showed what could be a releasable teaser trailer even though the movie is over a year away

1:05
EDouglasCS: It starts with a very gory version of the Legendary Pictures logo

1:05
EDouglasCS: it's narrated by Tom Hiddleston and i shows a lot of creepy images

1:05
EDouglasCS: GDT says that he wanted to make every scene look like a painting.

1:06
EDouglasCS: The camera goes through this old house showing various parts including a floor covered in dead flies as Tom narrates

1:07
EDouglasCS: Here's what Tom Hiddleston says over the teaser:

1:07
EDouglasCS: "A house as old as this one becomes in time a living thing
Timber for bones and winds for eyes
and sitting here all alone
It starts holding onto things
Keeping them alive when they shouldn’t be
Some of the m good, some arg bad
Some should never be spoken about again"

1:07
EDouglasCS: After that, we hear a very creepy voice saying "My Child" and it ends on an image of Mia Wasikowska cowering in her bed before a black hand appears and grabs her shoulder

1:08
EDouglasCS: GDT isn't answering any questions from the audience but he got them going by saying two things "Hellboy 3" and "At the Mountains of Madness"

1:08
EDouglasCS: Warcraft is next!!!!!

1:08
EDouglasCS: Crimson Peak looked very cool, especially the logo which is floating in what looks like blood

1:08
EDouglasCS: It's Duncan Jones!!! Surprise, Surprise!!!

1:09
EDouglasCS: Duncan: "I was talking with Michael Mann and I got a hug from Guillermo del Toro"

1:09
EDouglasCS: "There's a lot of fans and I was one of them."

1:09
EDouglasCS: Crimson Peak comes out October 2015

1:09
EDouglasCS: Duncan mentions that it will be 20 years since Warcraft was created next year

1:10
EDouglasCS: He's being asked how to make a movie accessible for those unfamiliar with the Warcraft universe.

1:10
EDouglasCS: he says it's going to be an origin story about how the world of Azeroth falls into conflict between orcs and humans

1:10
EDouglasCS: Duncan is doing great for his first-ever Comic-Con panel

1:10
EDouglasCS: He's talking about working with Blizzard now...

1:11
EDouglasCS: "This has been a dream of theirs for a long time and I'm in a unique place and lucky to work with Legendary and Thomas Tull to make a Warcraft movie."

1:11
EDouglasCS: Challenges making the film

1:11
EDouglasCS: He's glad that the movie isn't coming out until March 2016 because there's so much CG technology involved with creating that world

1:11
EDouglasCS: They're going to show something!!!

1:12
EDouglasCS: Oh, was Duncan Jones here last year? (I wasn't)

1:12
EDouglasCS: Okay , he's going to show something...

1:14
EDouglasCS: Wow, that was pretty amazing!!! (And also looks releasable as a teaser trailer)

1:14
EDouglasCS: It's narrated by one of the humans and one of the Orcs and we do get to see what the Orcs look like.

1:14
EDouglasCS: It definitely seems like it will be very two-handed in terms of showing the prelude to war from both sides, fairly evenly

1:15
EDouglasCS: There was a lot of glimpses of the environment and even less of the actual war between humans and orcs

1:15
EDouglasCS: Thomas Tull just came back out

1:15
Comment From tomb
I hope the movie focus on both the orc and human side of the story. There are no evil or good sides in Warcraft. Only sides.

1:15
EDouglasCS: Exactly

1:16
EDouglasCS: Tull says that "When you're done with PacRim 2 we'll talk" when it comes to doing either Hellboy 3 or Mountains of Madness

1:16
EDouglasCS: They're showing a tease for something else

1:17
EDouglasCS: Holy crap!!! They just showed a teaser for something called...

1:17
EDouglasCS: "Skull Island"... anyone want to guess what that's about?

1:17
EDouglasCS: Will describe in a second

1:18
EDouglasCS: it's a teaser that shows a jungle surrounded by water with a lot of narration

1:18
EDouglasCS: we see images of monkeys swinging through trees, some sort of dinosaur like creature in the water...

1:19
EDouglasCS: The narration talks about "it's very existence being improbable"

1:19
EDouglasCS: "Being alone in the wilderness had driven it mad"

1:19
EDouglasCS: "We penetrated deeper and deeper ingot he heart of darkness"

1:20
EDouglasCS: And yes indeed, they showed an image of what is CLEARLY King Kong roaring and beating his chest

1:20
EDouglasCS: It actually looked better than the Peter Jackson version...

1:20
ComingSoon.net: Coming November 4, 2016.

1:20
EDouglasCS: but apparently, they're calling the movie Skull Island, maybe due to rights issues?

1:20
EDouglasCS: Already dated, CS? Is there a director?

1:21
Comment From SeanWolf
Could also be GODZILLA VS KING KONG? Oh please be true

1:21
ComingSoon.net: No, that's all they said.

1:22
EDouglasCS: SeanWolf: I asked Thomas Tull this very question at the Godzilla junket

1:22
EDouglasCS: And yes, Universal does own King Kong and they're now working with Legendary but maybe this movie will be more than just King Kong

1:23
EDouglasCS: It does sound like Legendary is interested in continuing to work with Guillermo and since Universal released the last Hellboy (and it didn't do that badly) maybe they can work something out

1:23
EDouglasCS: There was no mention of Jurassic World

1:24
EDouglasCS: Any other questions? I'm being asked to vacate the section even though it's empty

1:24
Comment From Mister Unknown
WHAT DID TULL SAY ABOUT GODZILLA VS. KONG?

1:25
EDouglasCS: Nothing... I think they're focusing on Skull Island and then Godzilla 2 first

1:25
EDouglasCS: No mention of Spectral either for those asking. They haven't started filming yet

1:25
Comment From Eric
how did the warcraft trailer look. think it will be public?

1:25
EDouglasCS: I'm not a fan of the games but I get the impression it's very faithful but maybe going a little more the Lord of the Rings route

1:26
Comment From SPREZZI
did the new king kong look like p.jacksons kong?!

1:26
EDouglasCS: No, it looked way more savage

1:26
Comment From Guest
do you think that there will be any news of Jurassic world anytime soon?

1:27
EDouglasCS: It's being made. It's coming out next summer. For whatever reason, they're holding off on showing/saying anything

1:28
EDouglasCS: Guys, I have to run unfortunately so that's all I can say for now

1:28
EDouglasCS: (You're asking a lot of good questions but none I can answer. All they did was show a teaser for Skull Island.)

1:28
ComingSoon.net: Thanks Ed!
