January 24, 2011. The Sundance Film Festival. A place where dozens of first-time filmmakers unveil their considerable talents to some of the more discerning film watchers in the world. This is the environment in which Mike Cahill's first film Another Earth debuted to a standing ovation, not only introducing the world to Cahill, but also his Georgetown University colleague Brit Marling, who co-produced, co-wrote and starred in the sci-fi romance.

Fast forward to three years later and Cahill and Marling were back at Sundance with I Origins, a similarly intriguing mix of science fiction, science fact and cinematic romance, this one featuring Michael Pitt, Marling and Steven Yeun as scientists exploring the potential for the human eye who eventually are sidetracked by a mystery that unfolds following a personal tragedy.

ComingSoon.net sat down with Cahill at the New York City junket for his dramatic thriller to talk about all aspects of exploring the world of the human eye and its relationship to how we connect with each other as human beings. You can watch our extended video interview in the player below.

I Origins opens in select cities on Friday, July 18. You can check out our video interviews with the cast here.
