Big Screen Battlestar Galactica Reboot Moves Forward at Universal

Initially planned some years back for Bryan Singer to direct, Universal is moving forward with their big screen reboot of the Battlestar Galactica franchise. Variety reports that Transcendence scribe Jack Paglen has been hired to provide the script.

"Battlestar Galactica" was originally created by Glen A. Larson and began with the TV series in 1978, followed by a brief sequel TV series, "Galactica: 1980" two years later. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick launched a rebooted television version in 2004, while a prequel to that series, titled "Caprica," debuted in 2010, followed by a webseries, "Blood & Chrome," in 2012.

Paglen is no stranger to science fiction. In addition to the upcoming Transcendence, he's drafted Ridley Scott's still-untitled sequel to Prometheus. Although details are few regarding his plans for Battlestar Galactica, it has been said that Universal will be rebooting the franchise from scratch and that the big screen film will not take place within the continuity of either the originals series or the more recent reboot.
