Although Richard Donner's 1985 modern children's classic The Goonies did receive a sequel in video game form (pictured to the left), fans have, for years, been teased with the possibility of the big screen return for Mikey, Stef, Data, Mouth, Brand, Chunk, Andy and Sloth. Now, nearly three decades after the original was released, Donner tells TMZ (via Variety) that The Goonies II may finally be happening.

“If you call ‘Goonies’ a comic book," Donner responded when asked if he would ever make another comic book film. "We're doing a sequel.”

Word of a followup to The Goonies has been rumored for some time with the original cast of Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Ke Huy Quan and Martha Plimpton expected to be involved in some capacity.
