The Walt Disney Studios announced today the release dates for The Jungle Book and Alice in Wonderland 2. Both films will be released in 3D and 2D theaters.

Director Jon Favreau's adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book will hit theaters on October 9, 2015. Based on the classic tale of an Indian boy named Mowgli who is raised by wolves and lives among the animals, the script was written by Justin Marks. No other film had been scheduled for that month yet.

On May 27, 2016, Mia Wasikowska will return as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland 2. The first film, directed by Tim Burton, earned an impressive $1.025 billion at the worldwide box office. James Bobin (The Muppets) is directing the new film. There's no word yet which other cast members may return. The only other movie scheduled for that month is Disney's own untitled Marvel Studios film on May 6, 2016.
