Cast and Crew Talk Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." panel at the Television Critics Association press tour did more than just reveal a new poster. The cast and crew spoke at length about the upcoming series and its stories (via IGN). Since the announcement of the series, many have wondered how its episodes will differ from each other, and how many superheroes it will include.

“Every week it won’t be [the team meeting] some new hero," said Executive Producer Joss Whedon. "There can be a device, there can be a mystery… So much has happened since people found out there’s a superhero team and aliens invaded New York. Spy stuff, superhero stuff… Every week you get something that feels a little bit different.”

Fans are also wondering how many references to the larger Marvel Universe they can expect in the show, and the crew says to temper your expectations on that end. Whedon himself said it will happen "As much as we can allow. We’re still working that out. It’s s a fluid process. The important thing is it’s a fun option, but it’s not the reason for the show. We don’t want to just be an Easter egg farm. We want them to come back for these people [the cast].”

Co-Creator Maurissa Tancharoen also chimed in: “I don’t think we’ll make references for the sake of making references.” 

But the one thing on everyone's mind is how Agent Phil Coulson returns following his 'fatal' encounter with Loki in The Avengers.

“We will be dealing with the issue," Whedon said. "That will be part of the thread of the story.”

Coulson himself, Clark Gregg, added: “It’s pretty cool that a guy who starts out in Iron Man as an annoying bureaucrat with a secret ends up with his own show.”

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents including: Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May and Chloe Bennet as the mysterious computer hacker Skye.
