CS Video: White House Down Director Roland Emmerich
June 26, 2013
Roland Emmerich's White House Down marks the Independence Day director's return to summer and it's a surprising step forward for the guy who has already caused more wanton destruction in Washington, D.C. than most of the politicians that work there.
It stars Channing Tatum as John Cale, a D.C. police officer trying to get a job on the secret service detail of President James Sawyer, played by Jamie Foxx. Taking a tour of the White House to impress his daughter (Joey King) leads to Cale getting caught in the middle of a terrorist invasion of the White House and he has to single-handedly defend the President from the invaders that want to capture and kill him.
This past weekend, ComingSoon.net was in D.C. for the high-profile, politician-filled premiere and junket for Emmerich's movie at the Hay-Adams Hotel - which, as you can see in the video, has a gorgeous view of the North side of the White House.
We had a chance to sit down with Emmerich and his two stars, Emmerich talking about making a movie more grounded in reality as well as us trying (in vain) to get him to talk more about the sequel Independence Day 2, which was conveniently dated by 20th Century Fox just days earlier.
