Last weekend, the indie drama Mud had an impressive small-scale debut, taking 11th place at the box office despite only playing in 363 theaters. Along with the movie's 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, star Matthew McConaughey is getting superlative reviews for his role as an eccentric fugitive who befriends two young boys in rural Arkansas.

We had the chance to chat with McConaughey, on a prestigious roll in recent years, about building a relationship with co-star Reese Witherspoon without sharing any actual screentime, as well as his lead role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming sci-fi epic Interstellar, based on the astrophysics theories of Kip Thorne.
