First announced last July, Leif G.W. Persson's series of Swedish detective novels, Backstrom, is headed to the small screen. Today, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that "The Office" and Super star Rainn Wilson has signed on to play the title character.

The books follow the adventures of an overweight detective, Evert Backstrom, who manages to solve crimes despite his ornery disposition. In the American version, the name will be changed to Everett Backstrom and the location to Portland, Oregon.

Hart Hanson, the creator of "Bones," is attached to write and executive produce a pilot with Persson and Niclas Salomonsson producing as well.
