Mama's Andy Muschietti to Direct Bird Box

February 26, 2013

Universal Pictures has plans for Mama director Andy Muschietti to helm their adaptation of Josh Malerman's upcoming novel Bird Box, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

Malerman, part of the rock band The High Strung, is set to publish Bird Box in 2014. The plot is said to follow “a blindfolded threesome comprised of a woman and two children who make their way down a river in a seemingly post-apocalyptic setting.”

Mama, starring Jessica Chastain, hit theaters last month and has, to date, grossed more than $97 million worldwide.

Bird Box will be produced by Chris Morgan, Barbara Muschietti and Scott Stuber with Ryan Lewis negotiating to executive produce.
