Toy Fair: Hasbro Debuts New Toys for Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers & G.I. Joe
February 9, 2013
Toy Fair 2013 starts on Sunday, but as in years past, Hasbro has held a special Fan Collector Event for websites and other publications specializing in toys and action figures based on their four most popular licenses--Marvel, Star Wars, G.I. Joe and Transformers--all which offered new action figures, vehicles and playsets this year, joined by Hasbro's first voyage into Star Trek with their new line of Kre-O building block sets.
For the first time in many years, ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype wasn't able to attend Hasbro's impressive presentation due to other other obligations, but Hasbro kindly sent over an enormous press kit including information and photos on everything that can be expected from the company over the next few months.
As far as their Marvel line, the big reveal for this year's Toy Fair was the entire line for Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3, which was teased back in October at New York Comic-Con. The movie opens on May 3, but the toys will be available sometime in the spring including new electronic Arc Strike figures for Iron Man and Iron Patriot and a "Sonic Blasting Iron Man" figure. The "Arc FX" insignia also carries over to the new role-play line which includes an Arc FX Gauntlet, Mission Mask, Wrist Armor and Repulsor. Hasbro also introduced a line of "Assemblers" figures and battle vehicles for younger kids 4 and up and lots of other things. Hasbro also has a number of tie-in toys for the upcoming The Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman and out July 26, which gives us the first look at the Silver Samurai. You can see the new toys for Iron Man 3 and The Wolverine as well as lots more Marvel toys (including a cool Rocket Raccoon action figure) in our Marvel Gallery.
There's a lot of excitement for Star Wars again with the announcement of new movies while Hasbro continues to evolve the classic Star Wars toys with new series including their "Black Series," a line of 6" and 3.75" action figures based on some of the greatest characters in the "Star Wars" mythos. The 6" figures include Darth Maul and R2-D2, while the 3.75" includes Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala and others. There's also an Anakin to Darth Vader 13" action figure that literally transformers the character as in "Revenge of the Sith" and a separate color change lightsaber that does same. You can see the full line of new toys in the Star Wars Gallery.
A couple of years back, Hasbro introduced their Kre-O building block sets, starting with sets based on popular Transformers characters. Last year, they added Battleship to their Kre-O line and this year, they announced that they would be producing Kre-O sets based on Star Trek and G.I. Joe. The Star Trek ones are especially exciting since it's the first of hopefully more Star Trek toys from Hasbro and they introduce Hasbro's new Lighttech light-up technology while also giving us some idea what to expect from J.J. Abrams' upcoming sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. For now, Hasbro will release five Kre-O building sets planned of the U.S.S. Enterprise, the Klingon Bird-of-Prey, Space Dive, Spock's Volcano Mission (as seen in the extended preview for "Into Darkness") and a "Transporter Trouble" set, also from the upcoming movie. All of these will be available in May before the release of the movie, and you can see pictures of them in the Star Trek Gallery.
With G.I. Joe: Retaliation finally coming out on March 29, Hasbro is once again gearing up with lots of action figures and toys based on the movie version of the popular Joe characters, played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Bruce WIllis, Ray Park, Byung-Hung Lee, RZA and the rest. Since we covered them quite extensively last year, we'll just let you check out the new G.I. Joe toys including the new Kre-O building sets by clicking here.
As always, Hasbro also continued their vast line of Transformers toys and this year they're going big on Beast Hunters, including a few new Kre-O building sets based on them, as well as a series of "Construct-Bots" and their venture into card battle games with "Transformers: Legends" developed by DeNA currently for Android and soon for iOS. You can see pictures of all the new Transformers toys by clicking here.
We'll be adding some of our own photos (and possibly a few videos) of the toys when we visit the Hasbro showroom tomorrow and an update of anything else we learn there, so check back in the next 24 hours for those.
