Interviews with Tomb Raider stars Alicia Vikander and Walton Goggins
Tomb Raider will hit theaters on March 16, and we recently got a chance to chat with stars Alicia Vikander, who plays Lara Croft, and Walton Goggins, who plays Mathias Vogel. You can check out what the Tomb Raider stars had to say about their roles and shooting the film in the player below.
Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.
Opening in theaters on March 16, Tomb Raider also stars Dominic West (Money Monster, 300), Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained) and Daniel Wu (AMC’s Into the Badlands). It is directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave), with Oscar winner Graham King (The Departed) producing under his GK Films banner.
First published in 1996 by the London-based video game company Eidos, Tomb Raider became one of the most successful video games of the time. A reboot of the series, telling the origin of Lara Croft, was released in 2013 and sold over 5 million copies. The most recent game, titled Rise of the Tomb Raider, was released in 2015 and is available now for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
