CS Video: Kate Winslet and Idris Elba on The Mountain Between Us

There’s an elemental grandeur to acclaimed director Hany Abu-Assad’s spectacular, old-fashioned epic romance The Mountain Between Us, a film where nature itself becomes a character in the film, alternately protecting and assaulting the pair of doomed lovers lost in its grip. The tale of two strangers (Kate Winslet and Idris Elba) who survive a plane crash in a remote, snow-coated, mountainous region, the film allows its inevitable love affair to grow organically and believably and while it helps that its leads are two of our greatest living actors, it’s the arresting landscape itself that makes their passion play so compelling.

20th Century Fox  will open The Mountain Between Us (based on Charles Martin’s 2010 novel) tomorrow, October 6th. The film is directed by Abu-Assad (Paradise Now) from an adapted screenplay by J. Mills Goodloe (Everything, Everything) and Chris Weitz (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). The film co-stars Dermot Mulroney (The Grey) and Beau Bridges (The Descendants).

The Mountain Between Us had its World Premiere at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. ComingSoon.net was there and we had the chance to sit down with Abu-Assad, cinematographer Mandy Walker and the charming Winslet and Elba (whose chemistry off-screen is just as palpable as it is on-screen) to discuss in depth the making of this larger-than-life story of love, survival and the apathy of nature.

You can watch those interviews in the video below. Will you be seeing The Mountain Between Us this weekend? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
