New international The Mummy trailer, plus more backstory

Universal Pictures has revealed a new international trailer for The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise (Jerry MaguireMission: Impossible), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret ServiceStar Trek Beyond) and Russell Crowe (A Beautiful MindLes Miserables). Check out the international Mummy trailer below!

Entertainment Weekly also published an article that sheds light on the backstory of Boutella’s Princess Ahmanet, whose father went back on his promise to make her pharaoh once he had a son. This led Ahmanet to use some dark magic to get what’s rightfully hers, with director Alex Kurtzman describing her as “a woman who wasn’t content to be put in her place and wanted something more.”

“These people never shouted,” Boutella says of her character. “They were the most powerful people, but they were just calm.”

Kurtzman also confirms that we will not see the entire league of Universal monsters debut in this one film, despite the early presence of Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll in trailers.

“The movie’s called ‘The Mummy,’ not ‘The Mummy Meets 12 Other Monsters,’” Kurtzman says. “If we create a world that feels interesting and scary, then we will have succeeded in setting up the larger universe.”
