Sit down with writer/director Ben Wheatley and his Free Fire cast
A24 is releasing into theaters today the action thriller Free Fire, the latest from Ben Wheatley (High-Rise, Sightseers, Kill List). ComingSoon.net recently had the chance to sit down with the writer and director alongside his Free Fire cast. In the player below, you can check out interviews with stars Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Brie Larson and Sam Riley.
Free Fire centers around an arms deal that goes spectacularly and explosively wrong. Justine (Larson) has brokered a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two Irishmen and a gang led by Vernon (Copley) and Ord (Hammer), who are selling them a stash of guns. But when shots are fired during the handover, complete pandemonium ensues, with everyone at the scene suddenly thrust into a heart-stopping game of survival.
In the below interviews, the Free Fire cast discuss the stage play similarities to the way that Wheatley constructed his heavy ammo free for all. Filmed in sequence in an actual warehouse over the course of month, the R-rated comedy action thriller makes stylish use of its 1978 setting and an ensemble cast of colorful characters.
The Free Fire cast also includes Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor and Noah Taylor. The script was co-written by Ben Wheatley and Amy Jump. Martin Scorsese serves as an executive producer on the film alongside Sikelia’s Emma Tillinger-Koskoff, Reno Antoniades, Film4’s David Kosse and Sam Lavender, and Ben Roberts and Lizzie Francke from the British Film Institute. Andrew Starke produces.
