CS sits down with Ewan McGregor and his American Pastoral cast

In front of the camera for more than two decades, Ewan McGregor also takes the director’s chair for the first time with this Friday’s American Pastoral, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Phillip Roth. CS recently had the chance to sit down with McGregor and his American Pastoral cast and, in the player below, you can check out conversations with stars Jennifer Connelly, Dakota Fanning and Uzo Aduba. McGregor reveals a few of the directors that he turned to for tips (including fellow actor-turned-director Ben Affleck), while the rest of the America Pastoral cast members discuss their entrypoint into the somber tale.

Lionsgate and Lakeshore Entertainment release, American Pastoral follows a family whose seemingly idyllic existence is shattered by the social and political turmoil of the 1960s. McGregor headlines the film as Seymour “Swede” Levov, a once legendary high school athlete who is now a successful businessman married to Dawn (Connelly), a former beauty queen. But turmoil brews beneath the polished veneer of Swede’s life. When his beloved teenage daughter, Merry (Fanning), disappears after being accused of committing a savage act of political terrorism, Swede dedicates himself to finding her and reuniting his family. What he discovers shakes him to the core, forcing him to look beneath the surface and confront the chaos that is shaping the world around him.
