CS Video: Rebecca Miller and Greta Gerwig on Maggie’s Plan

CS sits down with Maggie’s Plan writer and director Rebecca Miller and star Greta Gerwig

Opening in a limited release this Friday is writer and director Rebecca Miller’s comedy drama Maggie’s Plan, starring Greta Gerwig in the title role. ComingSoon.net had the chance to sit down with both Miller and Gerwig for a behind-the-scenes look at what went into bringing Maggie’s Plan to life. Check out the interviews in the player below!

Maggie’s Plan follows Gerwig’s Maggie through her life in modern-day New York City. A single thirtysomething, Maggie wants nothing more than to be a mother, but her plans to be artificially inseminated are put on hold when she meets John (Ethan Hawke), a man who is simultaneously a brilliant academic and, in his owns ways, a terrified child. To make the situation even more complicated, John is already married to Georgette (Julianne Moore), a respected author and fellow academic who has no fear whatsoever of speaking exactly what’s on her mind.

In the below interview, Rebecca Miller, whose past works as writer and director have included Personal Velocity, The Ballad of Jack and Rose and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, discusses the origins of Maggie’s Plan while Great Gerwig talks about working with Ethan Hawke and how Hawke’s own real life writing became an important part of their collaboration. She also talks a bit about Maggie’s Quaker connection in the film and how rare it is to see the religion depicted on the big screen.

Maggie’s Plan also stars Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Travis Fimmel, Ida Rohatyn, Wallace Shawn and Mina Sundwall. You can check out ComingSoon.net’s review of the film from last year’s Toronto International Film Festival by clicking here.

Sony Picture Classics is releasing Maggie’s Plan in a limited release May 20.
