Snowden Trailer: America Under Surveillance by America

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in Oliver Stone’s Snowden trailer

Open Road Films has released the first full trailer for Oliver Stone’s thriller Snowden, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper) and Shailene Woodley (“The Divergent Series”). Check out the politically charged Snowden trailer below! Underneath, you’ll find the new poster in the gallery.

The pulse-pounding thriller reveals the incredible untold personal story of Edward Snowden, the polarizing figure who exposed shocking illegal surveillance activities by the NSA and became one of the most wanted men in the world. He is considered a hero by some, and a traitor by others. No matter which you believe, the epic story of why he did it, who he left behind, and how he pulled it off makes for one of the most compelling films of the year.

Snowden is written and directed by three-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Stone (Platoon, JFK). The script is based on the books “The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man” by Luke Harding and “Time of the Octopus” by Anatoly Kucherena. The latter book mainly deals with former information analyst Snowden’s time in Russia hoping to get asylum while the United States was demanding his extradition to potentially face jail time for leaking classified information.

The film co-stars Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Nicolas Cage, Scott Eastwood, Joely Richardson, Timothy Olyphant and Ben Schnetzer. Snowden is produced by Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff and Philip Schulz-Deyle, and is scheduled for release on September 16 of this year.
