CS Video: Take a Seat with the Barbershop Cast for The Next Cut

CS gets an inside look at this Friday’s Next Cut with Ice Cube and the rest of the Barbershop cast

It’s been more than ten years since the last chapter in the Barbershop franchise, but this Friday, Calvin’s is once again opening its doors and, whether you’re a devoted fan of the series or a total newcomer, you’re likely to get some laughs and also find some interesting discussion in director Malcolm D. Lee’s Barbershop: The Next Cut. A refreshingly progressive studio comedy, The Next Cut goes all in on some surprisingly-heavy topics, most notably gun control and the effect that gun violence is having in south Chicago today. CS sat down with the Barbershop cast and Lee himself to talk about the film, the franchise and the importance of having a relevant message.

New Line Cinema and MGM release, Barbershop: The Next Cut is produced by star Ice Cube alongside Matt Alvarez, Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr. The Barbershop cast this time around also includes Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall, Common, Sean Patrick Thomas, Eve, Anthony Anderson, Jaszmine Lewis, JB Smoove and Nicki Minaj.

In the film, Calvin (Ice Cube) and his longtime crew, including Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer), are still there, but the shop has undergone some major changes. Most noticeably, our once male-dominated sanctuary is now co-ed. The ladies bring their own flavor, drama and gossip to the shop challenging the fellas at every turn. Despite the good times and camaraderie within the shop, the surrounding community has taken a turn for the worse, forcing Calvin and our crew to come together to not only save the shop, but their neighborhood.

Let us know in the comments below if you’ll be checking out the Barbershop cast in The Next Cut this weekend. Also, be sure to check back soon for a longer form interview with Common wherein he discusses both The Next Cut and his upcoming role in Suicide Squad!
