CS sits down with the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies cast to discuss their undead take on Jane Austen
This Friday, Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice gets a dose of the undead as Screen Gems releases writer and director Burr Steers’ big-screen take on Seth Grahame-Smith‘s tongue in cheek literary adaptation, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. ComingSoon.net recently had the chance to sit down with the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies cast and, in the player below, you can check out our conversations with stars Lily James (Cinderella), Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Douglas Booth (Jupiter Ascending), Jack Huston (American Hustle) and Matt Smith (Doctor Who).
A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in the new take on Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Reilly) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield.
“I used the Black Plague as a model and the people moving out to far, far country,” director Burr Steers explained of his take during ComingSoon.net’s recent visit to the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies set. “But it really just exaggerates all the things that were in it as far as the female/male dynamics and class dynamics, the idea that you have this 1% that’s controlling everything while the rest of the country is in jeopardy. It’s really a British revolution that never happened.”
The Pride and Prejudice and Zombies cast also includes Sam Riley (On the Road), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) and Lena Headey (300). Look for it on the big screen Friday, February 5.
