One Shot in ‘The Intern’ Trailer Almost Ruins It for Me

I don’t have much doubt The Intern will be a typically sweet little drama from writer/director Nancy Meyers, but I have got to say that shot above of Anne Hathaway riding a bicycle through the office where she is founder and CEO is very frustrating. When I first saw it I wanted to stop watching the trailer and simply say it was all I needed to see from this film, but I continued watching and it doesn’t appear Hathaway’s character is as much a hipster as the people she employs, but my gawd, that kind of stuff in films, the cutesy little not-the-real-world shit you typically see in Sundance movies, grates on me.

As for this film, it stars Robert De Niro as Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower who decides to come out of retirement and becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Hathaway). At the end of the day, he gets caught up in the mix, flirts with the in house masseuse played by Rene Russo and becomes just as much an inspiration for Jules as she is to him. In the end, everyone begins to learn a little something about the other generation and, hey, he even joins Facebook.

We all know where this is going, but it will be a cute little distraction come Sept. 25. Check out the trailer below.
