Rumors of a New ‘Matrix’ Trilogy and Japanese Trailer for ‘Jupiter Ascending’

I’m a fan of two-thirds of The Matrix trilogy. The first, obviously, and The Matrix Reloaded I genuinely enjoy watching (I largely love that score), though I’ll admit I don’t feel much reason to ever see The Matrix Revolutions again. The trilogy remains the one big hit in writer/director Andy and Lana Wachowski‘s cinematic history and the reason Warner Bros. continues to grant them the ability to make films such as Speed Racer and now Jupiter Ascending, which is to say films a little more unique than your generic sci-fi fair.

Well, another reason to let them make those films is perhaps because the Wachowskis plan on revisiting the Matrix. Rumor from Latino Review suggests as much. Word is “the Wachowski’s have already started the writing process with early treatments and outlines already turned into the studio.”

What’s it all about? The site reports:

One of the early outlines was about the birth of the Matrix and now that WB is Terminator-less, some of suits would like to explore that early world but it’s way too early and the story is still very fluid.

[..]

The derisive ending of the original Matrix trilogy include the bearded Architect suggesting that Neo wasn’t the first “One,” opening the story world for prequels.

I’d personally be interested in seeing more from the Wachowskis with this one, but I won’t be holding my breath, expecting this to actually come true. What is coming true is siblings’ next film, Jupiter Ascending, arriving July 18 and starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis. Check out a new Japanese trailer for the film directly below.
