Watch: First ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Trailer

Fox has premiered the first X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer giving you the first look at what is, essentially, the seventh film in the franchise and the direct sequel to X-Men: First Class. Then again, considering the end credit scene at the end of this summer’s The Wolverine, I guess it could be called a direct sequel to that film. Not like it really matters considering each film is essentially a long-form trailer teasing the next one, but such is the game these days.

Based on the “Days of Future Past” comic book arc from the 1981 “Uncanny X-Men” series, X-Men: Days of Future Past centers on the idea of an alternate future wherein a dystopian alternative future mutants are incarcerated in internment camps. As a result an adult Kate Pryde (Ellen Page) transfers her mind into her younger self, the present-day Kitty Pryde, who brings the X-Men to prevent a fatal moment in history which triggers anti-mutant hysteria.

I’m not sure if the film itself will follow that exactly, but Page is in the film along with a slew of familiar names, old and new, such as Hugh Jackman (yes, again), Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Omar Sy and Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask.

The film is set for a May 23, 2014 release. Check out the trailer below.
