Watch the Trailer for ‘Emperor’ Starring Tommy Lee Jones

Roadside Attactions recently announced a March 8 release date for their recent Toronto acquisition, Emperor starring Tommy Lee Jones, surely hoping to take advantage of a potential Best Supporting Actor win at the Oscars only a few weeks prior. The film screened at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival to middling reviews and features Jones as General MacArthur in 1945, during the American occupation of Japan following Emperor Hirohito’s World War II surrender.

MacArthur finds himself the de facto ruler of a foreign nation, and assigns an expert in Japanese culture — and psychological warfare — General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox), to covertly investigate the looming question hanging over the country: should the Japanese Emperor, worshiped by his people but accused of war crimes, be punished or saved? Peter Webber (Hannibal Rising) directs.
