New Trailer for ‘The Host’ Based on Stephenier Meyer’s Non-‘Twilight’ Novel

Will another Stephenie Meyer novel deliver the box-office goods for Open Road as the Twilight franchise did for Summit? The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 marks the end of that franchise this weekend, a franchise that essentially made Summit what it is today and Open Road is hoping the same will happen for them.

It’s hard to muster the success franchises like Twilight and Harry Potter attain, but Open Road is certainly hoping Meyer’s The Host serves as some kind of answer as the first full-length trailer arrives.

Directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca), The Host revolves around some sort of alien invasion in which humans become hosts for extra terrestrial invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed and the story centers on When Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), one of the few remaining “wild” humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer (also played by Ronan), the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Along with Ronan the film co-stars Max Irons, William Hurt, Diane Kruger and Frances Fisher. The Host hits theaters on March 29, check out the trailer below.
