‘Gangster Squad’ Redux Gets Its First Trailer

Yesterday we got the new poster and today the first trailer for the altered and reshot Gangster Squad from director Ruben Fleischer starring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone and Sean Penn.

Reshoots took place due to a scene that too closely mimicked the tragic events in Aurora, Colorado this summer and now the film has a shiny new release date on January 11 where the story of Los Angeles police officers in 1949 step away from their bought and paid for colleagues to form the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Gosling) to take down the ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Penn).

The scene that was eventually cut from the movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter, featured mobsters bursting through the silver screen of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood with Tommy guns blazing. The bloody gunplay continued in the lobby and courtyard and spilled onto Hollywood Boulevard.

The scene was fictional and has since been reshot with the action moving to L.A.’s Chinatown and based on this trailer it looks like a little has already found its way into the marketing.
