Cannes 2012: ‘Maniac’ Red Band Trailer Starring Elijah Wood

I may have left Cannes, but the Festival is not over yet. The Midnight Screening of Franck Khalfoun‘s Maniac is set to take place at 12:45 AM CET on Saturday and we now have our first look at the film in the form of the following not safe for work, red band trailer.

This trailer actually came online a few days back, but the audio was all messed up and it was immediately pulled, but things have been sorted out. If you’re wonder about the visuals, apparently a lot of the film (I’m not sure how much of it) is shot from the perspective of Elijah Wood‘s Frank, a withdrawn owner of a mannequin store whose life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.

Maniac sounds intriguing and is certainly a film I wish I hadn’t missed, but if it’s any good I’m sure it will get picked up soon enough and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it as part of the Midnight screenings in Toronto this year.
