CS Videos: The Cast and Director of 21

If you’re going to make a movie about blackjack, then what better place to shoot it than in Las Vegas and if you’re going to do interviews for said movie, then what better place than sitting around a blackjack table at the Red Rock Hotel and Resort in Vegas? That’s where ComingSoon.net found ourselves as we sat down with director Robert Luketic and actors Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth and Laurence Fishburne to talk about their new movie 21, a crime caper based on Ben Mezrich’s best-selling non-fiction novel “Bringing Down the House.”

In the movie, Sturgess (Across the Universe) plays Ben Campbell, an MIT student who joins a team of fellow students as they’re taught to count cards in blackjack by Kevin Spacey’s Micky Rosa, skills they use in Vegas to make lots and lots of money. Bosworth plays the beautiful and brainy Jill Taylor, who acts as Ben’s conscience as he allows the game to get the better of him, especially when the casino’s head of security Cole Williams (Fishburne) catches on to the team’s tricks and plans to put a stop to them.

Director Robert Luketic is best known for helming romantic comedies like Reese Witherspoon’s Legally Blonde and Jennifer Lopez’s Monster-in-Law and he started off by telling us how he came to direct this very different film.
