A New TV Spot for The Interview Says ‘In Franco & Rogen We Trust’

It’s been a very hectic week for Sony Pictures and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s new comedy, The Interview. Although the most recent official word is that the film’s theatrical release has been cancelled altogether, the studio has just uploaded a new TV spot for the film that proudly states “In Franco and Rogen We Trust” along with the previous December 25 release date. Does that mean that fans might be able to catch The Interview in some form next week or is this a case of a video getting published on YouTube by accident? We’re not sure yet, but we’ll be updating this story as soon as official word comes in.

Also written by Goldberg and Rogen, the action-comedy follows Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Rogen), who run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the most unlikely candidates, to ‘take out’ Kim Jong-un.

“We actually based it more on political thrillers,” Rogen told ComingSoon.net when we visited the Canadian set of the film late last year, “like Ridley Scott movies and Michael Mann movies. We tried to use a lot of long lenses and we probably played some of the scenes tighter than they generally would in these types of comedies. To us, the fact that it looks kind of serious and has this weight to it makes it funnier, because it really looks like we’re stuck in like a serious political thriller.”

Also starring Lizzy Caplan, Randall Park and Diana Bang, The Interview will hopefully be available in some capacity in the near future. In the meantime, check out our review and our report from the set.

UPDATE: Although it had been removed from Youtube, the new trailer is now back with the film set to hit select theaters Christmas Day!
