There have been many good (and a few bad) movies about long distance relationships, and while you think they’d be less frequent with the advent of Skype and other technological ways of staying in touch with loved ones, it’s actually led to a new wave of modern indie flicks that try to create realistic modern relationships.
One of those is Zachary Wigon’s The Heart Machine, which premiered at the South by SouthWest Film Festival earlier this year. It stars John Gallagher Jr. as Cody, a New Yorker who has just started a long distance relationship with Kate Lyn Sheil’s Virginia, who is currently residing in Berlin. As they get closer while thousands of miles apart, Cody starts to suspect that not everything is what it seems and he starts looking into the truth behind the girlfriend he’s yet to meet in person.
The relatively low-budget film is an interesting mix of drama, thriller and detective story while maintaining its existence within the young community of New York’s East Village and Brooklyn.
ComingSoon.net sat down with the two actors a few weeks back to talk about the movie, trying hard not to make it sound like an advertisement for Skype.
The Heart Machine opens in New York at the Cinema Village and On Demand (including iTunes, Amazon and other platforms) starting Friday, October 24.
