Janina Gavankar Joins Ben Affleck’s Torrance for Warner Bros.

Deadline brings word that Janina Gavankar (Blindspotting) is in talks for the female lead in Warner Bros. Picture’s drama movie Torrance. Gavankar would star opposite Oscar winner Ben Affleck (Argo), playing the ex-wife to his character.

Torrance, the working title of the project also known as The Has Been, follows a former basketball all-star (Affleck) who lost his wife and family foundation in a struggle with addiction. He attempts to regain his soul and salvation by becoming the coach of a losing high school basketball team at his alma mater before his drinking gets the best of him.

Al Madrigal (Night School) and Sal Velez Jr. (Mayans M.C.) have also been cast in the film.

Torrance will be directed by Gavin O’Connor (Seven Seconds, The Accountant, The Green Hornet) and is written by O’Connor and Brad Ingelsby (American Woman, Run All Night, Out of the Furnace). Affleck will produce alongside O’Connor, Mark Ciardi, Gordon Gray, Ravi D. Mehta, and Jennifer Todd.

Gavankar’s credits include Lionsgate’s Blindspotting and the TV series Sleepy Hollow. She will next be appearing in Steve Anderson’s White Orchid and the thriller Cortex alongside Josh Lucas.
