The First Cut of Evil Dead Received an NC-17

Following the gory Red Band trailer that came online earlier this month, the current cut of Fede Alvarez’s upcoming horror remake, Evil Dead has received an “NC-17” rating from MPAA. ShockTillYouDrop.com caught the update, straight from Alvarez’s own Twitter feed.

“Was proud of scoring a NC17 when submitted!” Alvarez writes, “But we had to cut stuff out to get an R and get the film into theaters.”

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Opening in theaters on April 12, the Fede Alvarez-directed film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore.
