Margot Robbie & Matthias Schoenaerts Signed For Justin Kurzel’s Ruin

Following some interest last year in the Black List-topping script, Justin Kurzel‘s Ruin has taken a big step forward with the additions of Oscar-nominated performers Margot Robbie and Matthias Schoenaerts to the film.

The film, which is being directed by Kurzel from a script written by Ryan and Matthew Firpo (Marvel’s in-development Eternals movie), takes place in the ruins of post-WWII Germany and follows a Holocaust survivor (Robbie, I, Tonya) who is forced to make an unlikely alliance with an ex-SS captain (Schoenaerts, A Bigger Splash) in her quest to exact revenge. Together, they hunt down the surviving members of the captain’s former Nazi death squad.

There was some discussions last October about possibly getting production started with Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) attached to star, but following months of no news, the announcement has now come out revealing the attachment of the two new stars and the announcement that production is slated to begin around mid-2019 in Prague.

Robbie is just coming off of her critically acclaimed role as disgraced skater Tonya Harding in the biopic I, Tonya, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, while Schoenaerts is coming off the Jennifer Lawrence-starring spy thriller Red Sparrow, which was a modest box office success and earned mixed-to-positive reviews.

Kurzel started off his career strong with the highly-acclaimed drama The Snowtown Murders in 2011 and the 2015 adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard which, though a critical success, was a commercial failure, but did also hit a speed bump following the 2016 adaptation of the video game franchise Assassin’s Creed, which re-teamed him with Fassbender and Cotillard.
