David Yates Wants Alexander Skarsgard to Play Tarzan

Alexander Skarsgard could be stepping into the role of Edgar Rice Burrough’s iconic jungle hero. Variety reports that director David Yates wants the “True Blood” star to headline his upcoming Tarzan and that Samuel L. Jackson is up for a role as well.

Featuring a screenplay by Stephen Sommers and Stuart Beattie, the live action Warner Bros. project will adapt Burrough’s 1912 book “Tarzan of the Apes.”

Skarsgard recently starred in Peter Berg’s Battleship and can soon be seen in Zat Batmanglij’s The East, opposite Brit Marling, Ellen Page, Toby Kebbell, Patricia Clarkson, Shiloh Fernandez and Aldis Hodge.

Jackson, who just starred in Marvel’s The Avengers, is said to be up for the role of Williams, an original character for the film. Williams would be a Civil War veteran seeking redemption for his part in atrocities committed against Native Americans.

At this time, neither piece of casting is confirmed, but check back for details as they become available.
