Christopher McQuarrie Eyed to Direct Next Mission: Impossible

Deadline has learned that Jack Reacher helmer Christopher McQuarrie is the choice to direct the next “Mission: Impossible” film.

“I’m told that McQuarrie is the choice to helm the fifth Mission: Impossible film that is in the early stages of being put together by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. They will hire writers before making it official but he’s the guy that Cruise and JJ Abrams want,” says the site.

Last year’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, directed by Brad Bird, earned an impressive $694.7 million worldwide.

Cruise previously worked with McQuarrie on Valkyrie. McQuarrie has also worked on the scripts for Cruise’s All You Need is Kill and the Top Gun sequel, which is now in limbo after the death of director Tony Scott.
