Regina Hall Reveals a Girls Trip Sequel Is in the Works

Regina Hall (Shaft, Black Monday) has revealed that “the girls are coming back” in a potential Girls Trip sequel

Hall told Buzzfeed News’ AM to DM (via EW): “We’re trying to make that happen. So we’re trying to get everything together with the schedule. I think they’re working on something. I don’t know where we’re going. I don’t know where the girls are going but… we’re going somewhere.”

Girls Trip earned $140.4 million at the worldwide box office, becoming a popular smash hit. Director Malcolm D. Lee told the outlet that they would like to make a sequel, especially with how well the audience responded to the first film. “I think they’d want to see what the Flossy Posse is up to next and I’m hoping that we can make that happen and bring that to the masses,” Lee said.

From Universal Pictures and producer Will Packer (Ride Along), Girls Trip begins when four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man franchise) from a screenplay by Barbershop: The Next Cut‘s Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver, Girls Trip stars  Regina Hall (About Last NightWhen the Bow Breaks), Queen Latifah (ChicagoMiracles From Heaven), Jada Pinkett Smith (GothamBad Moms) and Tiffany Haddish (KeanuThe Carmichael Show). Larenz Tate (House of LiesRescue Me), Kate Walsh (The Perks of Being a WallflowerPrivate Practice), Mike Colter (The Good WifeMarvel’s Luke Cage) and Kofi Siriboe (KicksQueen Sugar) also star.

Lee also served as producer on Girls Trip with James Lopez, head of motion pictures for Will Packer Productions, and Preston Holmes, serving as executive producers.
