Daniel Craig & All-Star Cast Join George Clooney’s The Monuments Men

With just four movies under his belt as a director, George Clooney has established himself as a highly-respected filmmaker who is able to pull together impressive casts and that’s definitely the case with his upcoming dramatic feature, The Monuments Men, which Clooney will star in along with Daniel Craig, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin–who bested Clooney at the Oscars for The Artist–John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville and Bob Balaban, according to Deadline.

Adapted by Clooney and his long-time partner Grant Heslov from Robert M. Edsel’s book “The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History,” the drama takes place during the final days of Nazi Germany as Adolf Hitler and the Nazis try to cover their tracks by destroying all the artwork they had stolen during their rise to power, as a group of art historians and museum curators try to rescue those works of art.

Clooney will start shooting The Monuments Men on March 1 in Europe, co-producing with Heslov for Smokehouse with much of the same crew from Ben Affleck’s Argo, which they produced, including composer Alexadre Desplat.

Sony will be releasing the movie domestically after making the movie in a coproduction deal with 20th Century Fox.
