David Lindsay-Abaire Confirmed as Poltergeist Writer

ShockTillYouDrop.com caught up with writer David Lindsay-Abaire yesterday after a screening of DreamWorks Animation’s Rise of the Guardians, which he wrote (plus it was executive produced by Guillermo del Toro!) and when they asked him what he had been up to, Shock was surprised to learn he was busy writing Poltergeist.

This isn’t the first time you may have heard Lindsay-Abaire’s name mentioned with the project as 15 months ago there was a rumor about him being approached, though at that time, he said he didn’t know if he wanted to do it. Earlier this year, Sam Raimi signed up to produce the remake and that may have been what clinched the deal for Lindsay-Abaire.

Apparently, Raimi at one point was going to direct a movie based on Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer prize-winning play Rabbit Hole and the playwright/screenwriter even took a pass at Raimi’s ill-fated Spider-Man 4. Lindsay-Abaire said that it was Raimi who asked him if he wanted to write the new Poltergeist and that he hasn’t read any of the previous scripts that had been floating around and is indeed starting from scratch. He told them how much he loves the original movie and that he hopes to pay tribute to it with his version, but that’s all he could say.
