Melissa London Hilfers Will Pen Halle Berry’s Jagged Edge Remake

Sony Pictures has announced that Melissa London Hilfers (Blasphemy, Missing Piece) will write the screenplay for the Jagged Edge remake starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball, John Wick 3: Parabellum), Deadline has confirmed. The project was first announced back in April and is now moving forward at the studio.

Released in 1985, the original followed a high-profile lawyer (Glenn Close, Damages) as she is hired by the husband (Jeff Bridges, Hell or High Water) of a murdered social heiress, the sole prime suspect, to prove his innocence of the crime to the court. Penned by Basic Instinct and Showgirls writer Joe Eszterhas, the film proved to be a success at the time of its release, grossing a modest $40 million on a $15 million budget and earning very positive reviews from critics, earning co-star Robert Loggia an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the private detective truly unsure of the husband’s innocence.

The Jagged Edge thriller will be produced by Doug Belgrad (Peter Rabbit) and Matti Leshem (The Shallows), with Belgrad co-financing the project via his 2.0 Entertainment banner. Scott Strauss will supervise for the studio with Creative Executive Michael Bitar also attached.
