Doug Liman Could Take the Keys to Cannonball Run Remake

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman is in early talks to direct the Cannonball Run remake.

Described as a “relaunch”, the new Cannonball Run film will be written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant of Reno 911! and Night at the Museum fame.

Thurber is now putting his time and effort into an action film with Dwayne Johnson, Red Notice. Liman is currently in post-production on his young adult novel adaptation of Chaos Walking.

Cannonball Run, released in 1981, was directed by Hal Needham from a screenplay by Brock Yates. Starring in the ensemble cast were Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Adrienne Barbeau, Dean Martin, Jackie Chan, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dom DeLuise, The film follows the contestants of a massive illegal cross country race that stretches from Connecticut to California.
