Universal Moves Les Miserables to Christmas Day

Universal Pictures has moved the release date for director Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables from December 14 to December 25. It was previously going up against The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on the old date and now will face Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Paramount comedy The Guilt Trip and the Fox comedy Parental Guidance.

That’s not all, however. On December 19, Monsters, Inc. 3D and Zero Dark Thirty open and are followed by Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D, Jack Reacher and This Is 40 on December 21st.

You can see the full December release date schedule here.

Les Miserables stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Miserables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
