Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Gets National Treasure Writers

“National Treasure” writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley have come on board to rewrite the video game adaptation Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for Sony Pictures, Atlas Entertainment and Arad Productions, reports Variety.

Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist) is no longer attached to direct and is now concentrating on Summit’s Divergent, says the trade. A new director will be brought on board once the Wibberleys finish their script.

The Naughty Dog game follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is ratcheted up several notches when creatures — actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis — begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure’s true secrets.

Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing for Atlas, while Avi and Ari Arad (the “Spider-Man” franchise) will produce through their Arad Productions.
