Taron Egerton joins the Rocketman project as titular role
Deadline reported today that the Rocketman project is going forward. Paramount Pictures is finalizing a deal to finance and distribute the film worldwide. Actor Taron Egerton is set to star as Elton John, aka Rocketman.
The film will focus on Elton John’s beginnings, starting when he was a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music and carrying over to when he reached global stardom through his influential and enduring musical partnership with his songwriting collaborator Bernie Taupin. It will be a biopic that looks at the performer’s life past the glitter saturated image we have grown so accustomed to associating with the performer.
Dexter Fletcher will be directing the film. The script was written by Lee Hall. Matthew Vaughn and his Marv Films will be producing the film alongside Elton John with his Rocket Pictures partner David Furnish. Production is set to start this summer.
This is not the first time Vaughn and Egerton have collaborated before. They first started their collaborative partnership with the Kingsman: The Secret Service films, with Egerton starring and Vaughn directing. Vaughn also served as a producer of Eddie the Eagle, which Egerton starred in and Fletcher directed.
Rocketman currently does not have a set release date.
