Domhnall Gleeson in talks to star in New Line’s The Kitchen

34-year-old Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has entered final negotiations to co-star in the upcoming New Line Cinema crime drama The Kitchen, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The film, based on the Vertigo comic series of the same name, follows the wives of Irish mobsters who take over the business in the ’70s when their husbands are jailed and prove themselves to be more brutal heavy-handed in their leadership.

Gleeson will be joining an ensemble cast of high-profile stars, including Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Melissa McCarthy (Ghostbusters), Tiffany Haddish (The Last O.G.) and Margo Martindale (The Americans). Gleeson will be portraying Gabriel O’Malley, a Vietnam vet and former mobster hitman who returns to Hell’s Kitchen to settle the score with his former bosses and falls for Moss’ character.

The film will be written and directed by Andrea Berloff, who is known for the 2015 hit biopic Straight Outta Compton and acclaimed 2016 action thriller Blood Father, and Berloff will make her debut behind the camera with The Kitchen.

Gleeson appeared on the big screen multiple times in 2017, starring in the action biopic American Made alongside Tom Cruise, mother!Crash PadGoodbye Christopher Robin as the author of the “Winnie-the-Pooh” books and reprised his role as General Armitage Hux in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, while most recently starring in the live-action adaptation of Peter Rabbit.

The Kitchen is set to hit theaters Sept. 20, 2019.
