Annihilation Writer Alex Garland's New Script Lands At TriStar

Alex Garland Script The Toymaker’s Secret Lands at TriStar

Alex Garland, the mind behind the acclaimed Annihilation and Ex Machina, will see his new script The Toymaker’s Secret produced by TriStar Pictures. Garland is not directing this project, with Paloma Baeza attached to direct instead, according to Variety.

The Toymaker’s Secret tells the story of an American family who moves into an old Victorian house in London and begins to believe it might be haunted, but according to Hannah Minghella, the president of TriStar, the film will not be a simple horror film as the plot hints. It is said to be packed with “heart and humor and magic” that she believes will be perfect for the whole family.

Garland has been the driving force behind many praised films in the sci-fi and horror genres, including 28 Days LaterSunshineDredd and his Oscar-winning directorial debut, Ex Machina. Baeza, the 42-year-old British actress and Garland’s wife, will be making her directorial debut with Toymaker, with Minghella having called the pair “long-time friends and collaborative partners.”

In addition to Garland, the film will be produced by Allon Reich (28 Weeks Later), Cara Speller (Rocket and Groot) and Andrew Macdonald (T2: Trainspotting).
