Sony sets Greyhound and Grudge release dates for 2019
Sony Pictures has announced 2019 release dates for Greyhound and Grudge. Greyhound is coming our way on April 5, 2019, the same day as Shazam!, while the Grudge release has been set for August 16, 2019, a date it has to itself for now.
Greyhound, starring and written by Tom Hanks, is based on C.S. Forester’s novel The Good Shepherd. Aaron Schneider (Get Low) is directing the film. The film is being produced by Playtone’s Gary Goetzman and Hanks. FilmNation Entertainment’s Aaron Ryder, Playtone’s Steven Shareshian, and David Coatsworth serve as Executive Producers. FilmNation sold worldwide rights to Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA), which is financing in association with Bron Creative, Sycamore Pictures, and Zhengfu Pictures.
Greyhound is filming on location in Baton Rouge and is described as follows: In the early days of WWII, an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by captain Ernest Krause (Hanks) in his first command of a U.S. destroyer, crosses the treacherous North Atlantic while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats.
Director Nicolas Pesce (Eyes of My Mother, Piercing) is reimagining The Grudge with a new adaptation of the blockbuster supernatural thriller — titled Grudge — which he will direct for Ghost House and Good Universe. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) has picked up worldwide rights. SPWA, Ghost House and Good Universe last collaborated on the hit thriller Don’t Breathe.
Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce for Ghost House with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman executive producing for Good Universe alongside Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee, Doug Davison, John Middleton, and Andrew Pfeffer. Romel Adam will oversee for Ghost House and Brady Fujikawa will oversee for Good Universe.
The film will begin shooting in May.
