Lady Bird’s Timothee Chalamet to Play Young Henry V in The King

Timothee Chalamet will play the title role of a young Henry V in new royal drama The King

Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name star Timothee Chalamet will be playing the title role in the new royal drama, The King, as a young Henry V. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that David Michod (Animal Kingdom) will direct the film, co-written by Joel Edgerton (Bright).

The King is a modern-day Shakespearean adaptation from the screenwriting duo, who also worked together on Animal Kingdom, which Michod directed. Chalamet is best known for his roles in the Oscar-nominated films Lady Bird, directed by Greta Gerwig, and starring opposite Armie Hammer in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Bame, which earned him a best Oscar nomination as well.

Henry V was one of the most renowned kings in English history (1387-1422) and led two successful invasions of France, including his victory at the 1415 Battle of Agincourt and eventually “securing full control of the French throne.” Since the film is reportedly a modern-day adaptation, it will be interesting to see what Edgerton and Michod have dreamt up for The King, whose plot is currently unknown.
