Red Sparrow is Rated R for Violence and Sexual Content

Soon to be released spy thriller Red Sparrow is rated R. The Classification & Ratings Administration rated the movie as such for its depiction of strong violence, torture, sexual content, language and graphic nudity.

Red Sparrow stars Jennifer Lawrence as femme fatale Dominika Egorova, the deadliest agent trained in the Russian spy program Sparrow School. It’s no surprise that a film set in the conspiracy-laden world of espionage would be filled with sex and violence, especially upon seeing the latest TV spot, “You Will Be Trained,” which 20th Century Fox released and shows all the alluring ways a Sparrow is trained in to achieve her goal.

It is reassuring that Red Sparrow won’t hold back in its portrayal of the dangerous web of manipulation and death that comes with a Russian spy colliding and colluding with an American CIA agent. Jennifer Lawrence has proven her on-screen ass-kicking abilities in the Hunger Games and X-Men movie series, but she is also no stranger to baring her seductive beauty in R-rated films such as Silver Linings Playbook and mother!.

Red Sparrow is based on the best-selling novel of the same name written by Jason Matthews. It’s directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games) with the screenplay written by Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road). Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker and Jeremy Irons round out the cast.

Red Sparrow comes out in theaters on March 2, 2018.
